Black family papers, including the correspondence between Frank M. and Agnes Herd Black, and papers and correspondence of Dorothy Black and Charles J. Lynn. The Frank and Agnes Black correspondence comes from their courtship and early marriage. Dorothy Lynn's papers deal with her involvement with Butler University class reunions and the Visiting Nurse Association. Charles J. Lynn's papers concern his work as a Purdue University trustee, Lynnwood Farm and its well-known livestock breeding programs, the English-Speaking Union, and Eli Lilly & Co. Also included are World War I letters from Ralph L. Low from France; Black and Lynn family history materials; a 1901 hand-painted calendar; Black and Lynn family and vacation photographs; and photographs of Josiah K. Lilly Jr.

Josiah K. Lilly, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Ind. in 1893. He joined the family buiness, Eli Lilly and Co., in 1914. In 1944, he became president of the newly formed Eli Lilly International Corporation, and in 1948, president of the Eli Lilly Company. The English-Speaking Union was founded in New York in 1920 to strengthen relations between the U.S. and other English-speaking nations. The Indianapolis branch was founded in 1949 by Charles J. Lynn. He was followed as president by his wife Dorothy B. Lynn and Robert S. Ashby. The branch provides scholarships for British Commonwealth students to attend Indiana University and for Marion County (Ind.) teachers to study at British universities.
